Monday, April 21. Up early to go with Paul to Gare du Nord. His train is at 8:05 a.m. so he wants to be at the station an hour before. So at 6:20 a.m., we're standing out on Boulevard Sebastopol, trying to hail a cab! Lots of cabs are going by but they are all occupied. Two girls, who were here before us, are also trying to catch a cab. One of them says to me that it's always like this early in the morning in Paris: either people are going early to the airport or they're coming home from a late night out! At 6:30 a.m.????? After about 15 minutes, we finally are successful and arrive at Gare du Nord well before seven-o-clock.
The Eurostar departure platform is on the premier etage so we take the escalator up. The train departing before Paul's is still checking in so there's a little bit of a wait but eventually he passes through the check-point and I see him into the Eurostar waiting room. Take the metro home and consider going back to bed but have cafe au lait instead!
Later, L&T call from the RER to see if I can look online to figure out which terminal their plane is leaving from! Everyone is traveling today except me; I'm relaxing. Take sheets off of the other bed, do laundry, go to the market. Catch up on email. Work on blog. Go out for a walk. Cruise the internet and get tickets to both L'Antichambre (play) and the Radu Lupu concert! They are expensive but I've caved!
Strawberries and white asparagus are in season and fabulous. I'm breaking my solidly entrenched habit of never cooking in France to steam asparagus for dinner!
