Decisions, Decisions

Monday, March 17. St Patricks Day !!

Today, I finally throw in the towel and decide definitely to go with the World Teach program in China. There are a number of reasons but certainly one of the most compelling is the connection with Pearl Buck.

Aside: Pearl Buck (author of The Good Earth and winner of Pulitzer Prize and Nobel Peace Prize) is a relative. Her mother and my great-grandfather were siblings, and she was born in The Stulting family house in West Viginia - when her missionary parents were on leave from China - where my father was later born and which is now a historic house museum! PB also wrote The Exile, which is obviously less well-known but which is the history of the Stulting family, beginning in The Netherlands through their immigration to the US.

Now I'm going to have to go back and find out exactly where they were posted in China.

I have officially "deactivated" my application with the Peace Corps but can reactivate it at any time within one year if I want.
