Un Success Fou!

Today (Tuesday), I grabbed a bike from the station in front of the Hotel de Ville and rode it all the way to the Alliance Francaise! Woohoo! This time, however, I did it right. I mapped out a route so as to avoid the wrong-way one-way streets (got that?) and made sure I knew where there were several drop-off points near the AF. Here's something really cool about the Velib system: you can go on-line not only to find a station but also to find out how many bikes are available at that station and how many spots are open (for dropping them off). How incredibly cool is that?! So right from my apt, I can check the stations closest to me for available bikes and check the drop-off points for empty spaces. Obviously things can change but since these are mostly used for short hops around the city, it must work pretty well. It took me about 20 minutes to bike (very carefully) to AF. Now I just have to figure out the bus system . . .

Today in class we worked on Cause and Consequence: when to use various expressions such as parce que, puisque, surtout que, en raison de etc and whether each is followed by a noun, a verb, or a proposition (not a preposition!) Did you know that one uses puisque when the cause presented is known only to the speaker? Me neither. (Example: J'irai a ta place puisque tu ne te sens pas bien. Only the speaker knows that he will go in your place because you are not feeling well.) My head hurts.

Another interesting factoid: Standard French paper is not 8 1/2" by 11." It appears narrower and longer, although maybe it only appears narrower because it is longer. A little investigation is needed here. (later addendum: I have investigated and it is both narrower and longer.)
