Monday, September 17th. Have several posts in draft that I'm still working on. Lots of homework for school today so that keeps me busy in the morning. Take the Metro from Cite to St Placide. One of my favorite food shops is closed on Mondays. Wah.
In class today, we have two new students: Heiner and Ulla, a retired German couple, so at last there are people in the class as old as I am. They are here for two weeks. They were here for two weeks a few months ago so they already know Fabienne. Banning and Iromie have left so we are still eight. Heiner says that Paris is expensive even for them, even though they are also on the euro, more expensive than German cities.
In class today we read an article entitled L'homme ideal existe-t-il? Apparently, there are the same issues in France over sharing housework and childcare as there are in the US now that more women also have la vie professionelle. Later we had a debate around the subject of television. Camille assigned roles to each of us (television fanatic, a couple who had decided not to own a television, someone who used to watch TV a lot but then threw it out of the window . . . ) with one student as the moderator to ask questions. Ironically, I had to take the part of a television fanatic - that really was role playing. As homework, we have to write about whether we think that television will replace books or not. I know where I'll be coming out on that one!
Dinner chez moi: tarte provencale, des haricots verts, un macaron vanille. Spent the evening reading. Weather very warm (mid-70s) and sunny today. Pedometer 4,253.
