April Fool's Day

Tuesday, April 1st. Today is the first class of the new grammar cycle (8 weeks in total, of which I have just done the 7th and 8th; this is now the 1st week) so we have a new teacher. A huge contrast to the teacher we've just had. He's maybe a little older than I, and he spends most of the three hours in a rambling discourse about grammar. It's fascinating to listen to the things he has to say but I'm wondering if I'm actually going to learn anything. We'll see.

The teacher (Thierry) is at the very least an interesting character. He arrives holding his motorcycle helmet and black leather jacket along with a pile of books and papers. He's wearing black cargo pants, black vest, plaid shirt, a big bow tie with dots, and a long wool scarf in varying shades of dark green. He has longish, graying, curly-ish hair and is balding a little on top. Very cool, in a counter-culture sort of way. Some aspects of him remind me of Jim Kidd (if Jim were shorter and French, that is!): lined face, big nose, and a wonderful gravelly voice that he uses to great effect. It will be interesting to observe him.

This is a very international class, like most of the classes at AF. Here's the line-up so far:
Viet Nam, Cuba, Poland, Russia, Peru, Israel, Mauritania, China, Mexico, Germany, Italy (3), Romania and of course the good ole US of A (2). Of course, it will change every week as some people leave and others join.
