Spend most of the day starting to pack, confirming pick-up in Paris for transfer to Roissy on Wednesday, organizing transportation from JFK to West Hartford, doing laundry, blah, blah, blah, picking up a few things at the market.
Another transportation strike is anticipated for Tuesday, November 13. I'm glad I have a car coming to take me to the airport, and I wonder if we will need to allow extra time.
There's a new system for the Metro that's being phased in this month. All residents will have to have Le Passe Navigo. Not sure what's going to be in place for tourists. Have to find out more about this. Later: It looks like RATP will continue to sell individual tickets (or packs of 10: un carnet) as well as Paris Visite cards which are good for a number of days. But there's also going to be something called Navigo Decouverte which you charge up with a certain amount of money every week or month and it covers the metro, the bus, the RER and serves as an ID card at the Velib stands. You don't need to be a resident or work in Paris/Ile-de-France to get one.
As I'm sitting here, a "manifestation" comes walking down r. du Renard with a small police escort. There are maybe only 150 or so people, but they are making a lot of noise and carrying a large orange banner that reads:
Regularisation des tous les Sans-Papiers
Ni rafles ni deportation ni exploitation
Non a la politique des quotas!
Non a la politique des quotas!
I think you can figure out what all that means! Isn't French easy? No?
Dinner at L'Alivi tonight. I've been looking forward to it all day. I made a reservation for the terrace so I can sit out there with my book and not feel rude! When I called yesterday, either Vincent or Olivier answered the phone and said "Ah, Janet!" So nice to be known. :)

Long conversation with Vincent. Apparently he's the manager of the restaurant. The owner lives in Corsica and has an apt in Paris. Vincent lives in r. Saint Paul. We talk about how tough the restaurant business is. L'Alivi is never closed. Open 365 days for lunch and dinner. Say good-bye to Baptiste as he will not be here Tuesday evening.

Glad you had a chat with Flo. You may have me to thank. I told her it was a local call. I hope it is for her.
Enjoying your enjoying Paris, as ever. But will be glad to welcome you home.
